Pay attention girls… this is how much air brushing and Photoshopping most photos of women go through all the time at photo shoots. He’s beautiful without all the enhancements and so are all of the girls and women that are reduced and slimmed, and highlighted, and trimmed. When an actor or musician signs a contract with a label or agency, they forfeit the right to their “image.” If Justin’s record label decided they wanted to do a photo shoot of him in a sailor suit, he’d have to get a lawyer to fight it. Watch how they’ve been changing his image and the way he dresses to better market the Christmas album to non-tweens. Also, they’re making him more accessible to adults, with hopes that his new album will sell to a wider variety of people. There’s a reason he covered a Beatles song on national TV and it’s not to appeal to 17 year old girls.

He honestly looks more female than Sinead O’Connor now, not that you’ll know who she is because she makes good music and let’s be honest – if you’re here, you still have a severely underdeveloped music palette. When da faq will people be screaming for people like Kurt Cobain or Billy Corgan or Jeff Buckley again? It makes me really sad that people who are supposedly famous for music are in reality, more famous for being little poser boys with good looks (at least to young girls, it would seem). … but they did ask? They said, what do you think? So i told them. I wrote it right there. No no, I’m not 4, i’m twenty. Never did i say JB isn’t talented. I did say, however, that he is severely over-rated and produced. It’s the reason why the abilities of those truly talented people are forgotten, because they might not ‘look the part’. I mean, would JB be this huge if he wasn’t attractive? I think that’s more what i was trying to say. It’s just so superficial. Music is all about the ears, but now days it’s all about the eyes. And to me, that seems wrong. Not hating on JB as a person or anything, i think he’s a good person who has undeniable talent (let’s not talk Katy Perry though… not much there tbh). It’s what he represents. I’m many things, but I’m not ignorant. There is no stupidity in what I said. Again, it’s an opinion. Haha and of course I knew all of those you mentioned. I’m a huge Coldplay fan, a huge Frank Sinatra fan. I’m a music student buddy. Micheal Buble is really over rated, again my opinion. Have to say though, the names you chose to mention aren’t really that powerful… Jimi Hendrix any body? Queen & Mr. Freddie Mercury? Or bless, The Beatles? Bikini Kill? Morrison? The Killers, Oasis, Johnny Cash? Just people who sang songs that really meant something, that had heart and poetry. I guess a lot of people just miss songs they can relate to, and connect with. It’s hard to connect with insincere music. And it’s hard to study music knowing much of today’s is a gimmick. I really don’t mean to offend. It’s just hard.

I Love You Justin Bieber

First of all, I do think Justin Bieber has a lot of talent. He has a certain mix of down-to-earth qualities and confidence and charm that is obviously very appealing to a lot of people. He barely registered on my radar until recently, and his music is very different from what I usually am drawn to. But once I noticed him, I became fascinated with his career trajectory. He has done very well in a very short time. I think he has the potential to be huge over the long term, if his career is managed well. However, if I were managing his career, I would never have let this interview and photo shoot go down the way it did. He is a big enough star that he can say “no” to the stupid costumes. That is a truly ridiculous thing they put on his head, for instance. People have pointed out that his contract may give his label rights to his image, but his management team should be looking to enhance that image through these things and they would have the ultimate say about whether he does this or that promotional thing.
Also, while his distinction between “religious” and “spiritual” shows a lot of insight, he should have stopped there. His team should have stopped it there. He is going to alienate fans with mumbo-jumbo about being the new messiah. (Read the full interview) I don’t know if this has come from somewhere else or if it was cooked up by Team Bieber, but if it is the latter they should seriously rethink their approach. Remember the Beatles? Probably not. John Lennon sparked a huge backlash when he said the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. He meant they were more popular and more in the news and minds of their fans, but it came off wrong. In other interviews Justin has said some things in his life are private. This should definitely be one of them.
And no more embarrassing costumes. He doesn’t need that. Photo shoots that show him as a good-looking, athletic, talented young man are what is needed. Not photo shoots that make him look like an art installation freak. It is nice that he has fans devoted enough to find the artistry and beauty in the photos, but in career-building the goal is not to preach to the converted but to gain new converts. Will these images resonate with people who are not hard-core beliebers? Probably not. The whole V magazine thing was a very bad idea.
It is time for his team to step away from that approach and stick with the charity work, the fan-friendly tweeting, the occasional sports/hanging with friends video, and of course, the music. More forays into acting to showcase his abilities in that area would probably be good as well. But only the right projects. My take on it anyway.
