A few months ago, Lady Gaga’s video for “Bad Romance” surpassed “Charlie Bit my Finger…Again!” as the most viewed YouTube video of all-time. As of May 12, 2010 Lady Gaga had amassed 202,638,903 views in approximately six months. It didn’t look like anything could stop it.

It still doesn’t appear to be stopped, but can it be topped?

As of June 24th, Justin Bieber’s “Baby” video surpassed 211,000,000 views. This makes it the second most viewed YouTube video of all-time. “Bad Romance” remains in the lead with just over 233,000,000 views.

It sounds like a major discrepancy, but take note that “Baby” from Justin Bieber has only been available on YouTube for 4 months in comparison to “Bad Romance” being out 7 months. On May 12th, “Baby had only accumulated 132,580,445 views. Within 6 weeks, Justin Bieber has closed the gap from approximately 70 million to 20 million.

Comments on Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” video already show fans worrying about Bieber surpassing her in the upcoming months. Comments on Justin Bieber’s video could not be retrieved.

There are some interesting notes about this fight. Regular YouTube users are fond of users that invade other videos as trolls. Trolls barge into videos they dislike in order to ridicule the artists and fans who made or enjoy the work.

Usually, trolls aren’t welcomed. In this case, any troll that can’t resist his or her urges to trespass unto their competition’s video will be giving them views. A fan of “Bad Romance” that trolls over to “Baby” is helping Bieber out by posting comments on his video, giving it more views.

Can “Bad Romance” maintain its role as YouTube’s most viewed video of all-time? Will “Baby” continue its surge toward the top, effectively ending human sanity?

JB’s BABY will become the most watched YouTube video of all time by end of 2010

ps. Did you know Lady Gaga’s manager is also managing Greyson Chance?

After reading the No Country More Interested In Justin Bieber Than The Philippines article I was curious to see which is the currently Most Viewed YouTube Video of All Time since the article said BABY is now #3. And guess what? It happens to be Lady Gaga’s BAD ROMANCE which explains why her manager believes that YouTube is the Future, MySpace is the Past.

MOST VIEWED VIDEOS OF ALL TIME
1. BAD ROMANCE 2.15 million views (Nov 23, 2009)
2. CHARLIE BIT MY FINGER 1.95 million views
3. BABY 1.66 million views (Feb 8, 2010)

So I wanted to see if JB could catch up to Lady Gaga and surpass her to become the most viewed of all time. Using a spreadsheet, I plugged in the numbers and made a graph. And below is that graph.

As you can see, BABY (orange) is increasing much faster than BAD ROMANCE (red) in a shorter amount of time. If you go look at the graphs on YouTube for each video, you can see that BAD ROMANCE is starting to level off while BABY keeps getting more and more popular each day.

From projections I predict BABY should become the Most Viewed YouTube Video of All Time by the end of 2010. Let’s see if I am right.  😉

See you guys at the end of the year (or maybe even earlier.)

The managers of Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber say they now focus their energies on YouTube and believe MySpace is finished as a vehicle to promote music. Lady Gaga manager Troy Carter says he will now specifically “create music videos for YouTube”. Carter’s statement breaks from tradition because music videos have historically targeted MTV and foreign markets.

Justin Bieber manager Scooter Braun told the audience at the TechCrunch conference that Bieber’s career is typical of the way YouTube is shaping music. Bieber was discovered on YouTube and the strategy to promote him centred around creating more online content. Bieber’s videos hit 55m views before he was signed by Universal Music. Braun says the process took so long because record companies thought that “without a TV show, you can’t break a teenage star”.

Carter points out that Lady Gaga began her career via MySpace four years ago, but Braun quickly added that “nobody does MySpace anymore”. Both managers agree Twitter is a vital promotional tool because it helps break down barriers between the artists and fans.
