Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian have more in common than 2010 dating rumors. The celebrity trio led the 2010 lists for most searched celebrities on the internet. Kim Kardashian topped the list for Bing.com, while Justin Bieber led AOL.com and Miley Cyrus claimed Yahoo.com’s No. 1 hot spot.
BIEBER FEVER BUMPS JUSTIN BIEBER TO THE TOP
In 2010, Bieber’s fanbase expanded and so did the searches. The 16-year-old pop star scored top ranking in AOL’s “Hot Search” list, taking the No. 2 spot, and following only behind Tiger Woods. If not for Tiger’s overtly public sex scandal with multiple mistresses, Bieber may have claimed first place for the year.
“2010 proved to be the Biebs’ breakout year,” writes AOL.com. “He kicked it off with an appearance on ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.’ In February, he proved his acting chops in an ‘SNL’ sketch with Tina Fey…Appearances on the ‘Today’ show and an oil spill telethon in June exposed him to new audiences. In October, he spoke out about bullying on Ellen DeGeneres’ show.”
MILEY NO. 1 BAD INFLUENCE, NO. 1 SEARCH
For Yahoo.com’s list, Miley Cyrus led the pack. Ranked as the 2009 Worst Celebrity Influence, Miley wasn’t lacking in rising popularity trends for 2010. For Yahoo.com’s “2010 Year in Review”, Miley made her mark with a bit of scandal and work. Transitioning from Disney’s “Hannah Montana” to an all-out adult superstar, searches for Miley included her racy Harper’s Bazaar cover, her suggestive “Nothing to Lose” video with Bret Michaels and leather and straps stage costumes in “Can’t Be Tamed”.
Among a public dispute with Perez Hilton over her crotch shot pic and UK lesbian kiss, her parents’ divorce also garnered Miley additional search engine oomph.
KIM KARDASHIAN’S BIG BING: “OMG. THIS IS SO INSANE!”
Much to her dismay, reality starlet Kim Kardashian took top honors on Bing’s “Top 2010” search list. The 30-year-old “Keeping up with the Kardashians” girl, fashion designer and entrepreneur rattled the ranks with such topics as her nude Harper’s Bazaar spread and countless QuickTrim, weight loss magazine covers.
“OMG! This is so insane! I just read that bing.com announced their most popular search terms for 2010 and I am at the top spot!!!!! It’s just crazy to me to think that people search for me on Bing more than they search for any other person,” Kim wrote to fans on her blog Monday.
While last year’s Bing list led with Michael Jackson in No. 1, Kim added that this year she was “a little shocked” to come before such celebrity greats like Sandra Bullock and Tiger Woods (not even a feat the Biebs could tackle). Additionally, Kim topped over other well-known figures including Lady Gaga, Kate Gosselin and Barack Obama. See the complete Bing.com list here.
GOOGLE’S SEARCH LIST TBD
So where’s Google? The search engine giant has yet to release their top 2010 search list but is expected to come out later this month.
