MANILA, Philippines — It looks like Filipinos will have another “connection” to pop superstar Justin Bieber.
Young duo Krissy and Ericka, who popularized the songs “Up Up Down Down,” “Surf’s Up” and the cover of M2M’s “Don’t Say You Love Me,” will have an appearance in Justin’s upcoming 3D movie via their version of his hit song “Baby.”
“Happy to tell everyone that a clip from our Baby cover on YouTube will be shown on Justin Bieber’s new 3D movie!” the singing sisters tweeted on Oct. 29.
As reported by PEP, Paramount Pictures, producer of 16-year old Justin’s biographical film, has sought the permission of Krissy and Ericka’s manager Erickson Raymundo to use their “Baby” cover for the movie.
In an interview, Krissy clarified that “it’s just gonna be a short split of our rendition of it (‘Baby’).” Nevertheless, “even if it’s just like five seconds, we are really happy for Justin Bieber to see it.” Krissy also happens to have a big crush on Justin.
Justin’s movie is slated for release Valentine’s Day of 2011.
Krissy and Ericka’s “Baby” video, uploaded Feb. 24 of this year, has been viewed 1,259,265 times as of this writing. It has also received 6,371 likes and marked as “favorite” 4,166 times by YouTube users.
Prior to Krissy and Ericka, several other Filipino acts had met or collaborated with The Bieb. First on the list is Justin’s leading lady in his “Baby” music video, singer Jasmine Villegas—whom he was also seen making out with inside a car last month.
There’s also international singing sensation Charice, who met Justin during their guest appearance in an episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Charice herself did her own version of “Baby,” the video of which was posted on popular Hollywood blogger Perez Hilton’s website.
Serving as back-up singers to the pop heartthrob is Legaci, a four-man Filipino-American R&B group. They somehow share a similar fate with Justin, with YouTube as their launching pad. They received that life-changing call from Justin’s manager Scott Braun in only less than 24 hours after they uploaded their version of “Baby.”
